Cambelts – Pencoed

The most important maintenance item in your engine is the cambelt (also known as the timing belt). The cambelt’s job is to keep the camshaft and crank timed as it should be. Over time the cambelt will stretch and as a result the engine timing may get delayed. To avoid nasty surprises, you should have your cambelt checked annually.

What is a cambelt?

The cambelt (timing belt) is one of the most important components of your car engine. Essentially, it is designed to keep the bottom half of the engine in sync with the top half.

What does the cambelt do?

The cambelt synchronises the rotation of the crankshaft and the camshaft so that the engine valves open and close at the right times.

How often should I change my cambelt?

Most manufacturers recommend a cambelt change every 40,000 to 60,000 miles or roughly every 5 years.
